Great Green Macaw Project

THE SCIENCE OF SAVING A SPECIES

The World Parrot Trust is putting aid from Tract Aviary into direct action through a breeding and reintroduction program in Costa Rica. Once common, poaching and deforestation drove the Great Green Macaw close to extinction. Using funds from Tracy Aviary, the World Parrot Trust is able to work with over 15 organizations on-the-ground in Costa Rica and volunteers from local communities—community scientists—to raise, release, and monitor Great Green Macaws. In addition, the Great Green Macaw project set up nest boxes especially made for the release macaws to settle into their new wild homes. As a species in need can use all of the help it can get, this project hosts a festivals and visits schools to raise awareness and appreciation for this magnificent creature.
