Are the hikes appropriate for children?

Children 11 years or older are welcome to join on the hikes. Due to the steep nature of some of the areas we enter, please gauge on whether or not the hikes are appropriate for your child[ren]. If you have any questions on the difficultly of hiking, please do not hesitate to contact us at conservation@tracyaviary.org or at (801) 596-8500 ext 107.

What Risks are involved?

Wildlife: Alta Ski Area, like many of the areas in the canyons, has wildlife that can be dangerous. On these hikes, it is not unusual to encounter moose. Please measure your own risk and inform yourself on what to do in case of a moose encounter. At the beginning of each hike, we address safety guidelines for moose.

Hiking: Being an outdoor activity, there is risk of injury. On some weekends, we will enter steep areas of the canyon. Please be prepared with sturdy shoes and communicate to the guide if you have any concerns. If you have any questions on the difficultly of hiking, please do not hesitate to contact us at conservation@tracyaviary.org or at (801) 596-8500 ext 107.

Sunburn: At higher elevations, there is greater risk of exposure to UV rays and a higher chance of sunburn and skin damage. Please pack sunscreen or sunblock.

What SPecies of songbirds are nesting in the boxes?

Typically, we will see Mountain Chickadees and Mountain Bluebirds in the nest boxes. We are hoping that owls will nest in the nest boxes constructed for owls in the future. These birds take a couple of years to occupy nest boxes.
